Privacy policy
Thrive Tech (ThriveTech.ai) owns thetrail.online and is the controller of the data described here.
Visitors
We keep records of visits, network addresses included, to run and secure the site and to improve it and our outreach. We set no cookie to record a visit. We sell nothing about you.
What we collect once you sign up
- Your account:
- your name and email address
- your age group, thirteen to fifteen or sixteen and over, with the day you gave it
- the day and the reason, if the age question closed your account
- the campaign code of the link that first brought you, and when
- your consents, with their dates and policy version
- a one-way hash of your network address with your sign-up and each code or flag
- Your walk:
- your place and distance on the trail
- your progress in each conversation, and the encounters you unlocked
- your trailhead answers: who is walking, your language level, why you walk, your start date, and how many days you have
- only the relationship to you and the sex of anyone who walks with you
- your quiz answers, with their days and stops, and each quiz's results
- your settings, and the tips you closed or used
- the times you started and last saved
- a random name and save count for your browser tab
- Each flag holds the line or picture you flagged, the problem you chose, any comment, and your account.
- Your access to each trail:
- the date you asked, if you did
- whether we gave access or refused it, and whether we later withdrew it
- its source: your request, our choice, a purchase, or a gift
- the date of our decision and who made it
- a pending request's link to your public profile, and any note
- News by email:
- each news email's unsubscribe link, with your address
- once news stops, your address, with the date and the way you stopped news
- The full record holds what you do on the walk as it happens, names you type included.
- Emails about you in our mailbox:
- our notices of your sign-up and trail requests, with your name and email address
- your emails to support@thetrail.online or in reply to your code, and our replies
Our use of your data
- Our contract with you lets us use your name, email address, walk, and trails, and the copy your browser saves, to run the walk of your choice.
- Our legitimate interests:
- flags, to correct the walk
- the hash, to cap requests from one address
- the campaign code, to measure our announcements
- the age group, to open each part only at lawful ages
- the mailbox, to follow sign-ups and answer you
- Your consent lets us send you news and keep the full record. You give it in Settings from the age of sixteen and withdraw it by turning it off there. A reply to a news email, or its unsubscribe link, also stops news.
- A legal obligation to stop news when you ask requires us to keep the record that news stopped and each news email's link.
The age question asks your age and your country. We keep only your age group and the date of your answer. We never keep the age or the country you give. We use the group to open an account at thirteen in the United States and the United Kingdom and at sixteen everywhere else. While your group is thirteen to fifteen, we ask the question again once a year.
Retention and removal
We keep each record until you ask us to delete your data, except:
- a pending request for a trail: until we decide it
- a flag's hash: a day after we take the flag up, or 90 days after you sent it, if sooner
- a hash kept with no email address: a day
- the record that your news stopped: until you turn news on again
To have your data deleted, write to support@thetrail.online from your sign-up address. A person decides on each request and answers you. We then delete your account and everything we keep with it, mailbox emails included, and remove your account from the records of your visits.
Who holds your data
- We hire companies to host the site, its database, and our mailbox, to send our email, to check the sign-up form, and to record visits for us.
- YouTube's player plays each video, under YouTube's privacy policy.
- Your browser holds a cookie that keeps you signed in for 30 days, and a copy of your walk until you clear this site's data. Your browser keeps a one-day note naming no one when the age question allows no account.
